Philanthropy and the Black Church (Volume 2)

In May 1989, the Council on Foundations hosted a Conference on Grantmakers and Black Churches at Shiloh Baptist Church in Washington, DC, with support from Lilly Endowment Inc. and the Ford Foundation.  The first volume of Philanthropy and the Black Church collected and presented the proceedings of that conference, including key addresses and research reports.

This second volume, published in 1995, shares some of the same addresses, with the aim of reaching new audiences and fostering new collaborations between Black church leaders and philanthropic leaders.

As the editor of this volume, Audrey Daniel, wrote, “Since publication of that initial volume, surveys have indicated that the principal inhibitor to partnerships between grantmakers and black churches had simply been lack of information… Philanthropy and the Black Church, Volume 2: Partnering to Serve Community is a handbook that continues the forum for communications between grantmakers and black church leaders” (Daniel, vi)
